NOTE: This application is to be posted in the Jobs Application Board.
1) A Shopkeeper is no small charge to take on and should be taken as seriously as any other WW (Wizarding World) character. Make them people, real people... otherwise... we may as well use NPCs.
2) You are more likely to be accepted if you are signing on to staff of an existing store than making one up yourself; especially since most of the types of stores that could exist are already covered by the existing stores. But if you come up with something truly unique, there's no reason not to apply with your own shop.
3) Shopkeepers are not usually very strong magically. They do not kick Butt on a regular basis.(They can be, but you don't exactly need Auror training to stock a shop, do you?) That and we have our fill of uber-kick-your-ass shopkeepers. Now, that's not to say that a shop keeper can't be brave or daring, (after all they'd have to be to have stuck around Diagon or Hogsmeade after the attacks, or even try to run a business on Knockturn) just look at Tom the Innkeeper or Madame Malkin and you'll see what kind of shopkeepers we actually want.
4) If you take on a shop in Diagon Alley, be prepared to share shop keeping duties with one or two Students hired as summer help. This is done on a first come first serve basis, with those who were hired in previous years having first dibs.
DIAGON SHOPKEEPERS On Diagon Alley it probably wouldn't be unusual to see a Shopkeeper having lunch at the Leaky Cauldron, Florean's, or The Crowe's Nest. They may get together to commiserate over troubles in their businesses; especially after the Christmas Eve 2003 disaster. It's nearly a sure thing, in fact, that friendships were forged between the shopkeepers in the time immediately following that, as they helped one another rebuild and recover from the terrible disaster. They are not permanently confined to their shop, except during work hours, and not even then during the summer, when the student assistants are hired in many stores to help carry the load, meaning that the head shopkeepers could presumably be off doing whatever they please.
Diagon Alley Shopkeepers are run of the mill people, but will have risen to new heights of resilience, and bonded together after a terrible tragedy. In addition to those who run their own shops, there are also those who did not have the means to rebuild after the attacks. Many of them now operate businesses out of pushcarts, and small booths. Some of these are those who have relocated from Hogsmeade. Oh yes, if you wish to be a shopkeeper, where I say Accio, you put Flaming Spokes and Wizards Knuts.
Available Existing Shops in Diagon: The Apothecary, Eeylop's Owl Emporium, Flourish and Blotts, Quality Quidditch Supplies, (Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor is also available; however, you must apply as Canon Florean for this shop. The same goes for The Leaky Cauldron, you must apply for Tom the Innkeeper to run that place, and Madame Malkin's, where you must apply as... well, Madame Malkin.)
KNOCKTURN SHOPKEEPERS On Knockturn Alley, Shopkeepers may have a hand in shady backroom dealings, be members of one of the guilds or, they may be under the thumb of some more powerful underworld figure who's extorting them for protection money. There are plenty of creative ways for your Knockturn Shopkeeper to be involved with the community in Knockturn Alley. They tend not to have too much hired help though, and no student help at all, so there's no reprieve in the summer months for them. (Besides, children can't be trusted to keep their noses out of business that isn't theirs) However it's probably not unusual to find them (shopkeepers) after closing hour, in one of the shadier pubs... talking with shady people.
Business continues as usual on Knockturn Alley though, which was untouched by the attacks Christmas Eve 2003. Knockturn Shopkeepers are mostly those of Pure, or Semi-Pure Lineage, and tend to have allegiances toward the dark side... others are out only for themselves. There are NO Undercover MoM employees running shops on Knockturn Alley. Unless you can come up with a very good reason. Otherwise, no, because its simply far too dangerous.
Available Existing Shops in Knockturn: The Hagg's Eye Pub, Farouk's Flagitious Menagerie, and Polynice's Potent Potions. (Borgin and Burkes, is also available; however, you must apply as Canon Borgin for this shop...)
HOGSMEADE SHOPKEEPERS In Hogsmeade, Shopkeepers are mostly concerned with the day to day running of their shops, and keeping their heads above water. Unlike Diagon, in which some shops were protected by charms, and many were left partially standing, Hogsmeade was leveled and razed. Those who have stayed in Hogsmeade are a tight knit group of only the most stubborn or brave shopkeepers who have not left for Diagon Alley. They service the very small community that remains living in the village, and Hogwarts itself.
Some business comes in from the Wizarding community, but most people in the Wizard community would prefer to go to Diagon Alley, as it is better rebuilt and there were more survivors there.
Things are rough in Hogsmeade as there are fewer people there to help one another, (Since so many left for fear of their lives). There is no student help in the summer at Hogsmeade either, as there are few families with children who chose to live in the Village after the attacks. Taking on a shop here will be a challenge.
Available Existing Shops in Hogsmeade: The Post Office, Honeydukes Sweets Shop, The Hog's Head Pub (you must take on canon Aberforth Dumbledore to take command of this shop), and The Three Broomsticks (for which you must take on the canon character of Madame Rosemerta.)
5.) Finally!

NOTE: This includes: List of items sold at your shop, and set up role play scenarios occasionally too. 3. You will need to pm me every time a student buys an item from your shop so I can be sure to remove that amount of money from their vault.
